Atlantic Coast host Riverside

With both of these well put together teams opening the season with a win, it’s going to be interesting to see how this game unfolds. Last week Riverside defeated the Terry Parker Braves by a score of 28-3. With 3 of this year’s Times Union Pre-season Super 11 selections on their team, the Riverside Generals appear to be well prepared for whatever adversity that comes their way. Riverside executed on all 3 phases of the ball for week 1 but what stood out the most is the fact that their defense managed to have an interception returned for a touchdown by junior defender Lawrence Neloms, while only allowing Terry Parker to score 3 points. The General offense complimented their defense by putting up 21 points of their own. Headlining this offense is senior running back Alvin Gibson with 124 rushing yards on 15 carries, averaging just over 8 yards per carry and 2 touchdowns.

The Atlantic Coast Stingrays managed to skate past the Mandarin Mustangs with a score of 27-24 which ended in a go-ahead field goal by junior kicker Kristian Karoglan to win the game. Karoglan actually played a vital part in the Stingrays’ effort to pull this victory out by nailing all 3 of his field goal attempts and his longest being 43 yards. Another star that shines bright for week one was senior running back Arthur Walker. Rushing for 196 yards and 3 touchdowns on 24 carries, the stingrays appeared to show no hesitation with their attack. Walker’s heroic performance helped carry Atlantic Coast past Mandarin. However, for week 2 they have a lot more work cut out for them as they prepare for the high-powered and well balanced Riverside Generals. Even though it’s going to be amazing to watch  Riverside’s Gibson and Atlantic Coast’s Walker as they lead their teams through their strong rushing attacks, this one should be a battle of the offensive lines. Whichever offensive line is more successful is the one that is going to come out of this game with the victory. Riverside will be at Atlantic Coast  Friday night as kickoff will be at 6:30pm. This is going to be a great game.
