In  the world of sports, there are a lot of things that could be taught. Qualities such as skill, tactical thinking and technique are among these qualities. However there is one tool required to be great that most people forget about, but can’t be taught and that is resiliency. The ability to overcome adversity can be the difference between being “one of the guys” and being “That Guy”. On march 4, 2022, Bishop Kenny senior sprinter Noah Straley took advantage of his opportunity to show that he was “That Guy” by taking home first place in the 400 meter dash with a time 48.77, which is absolutely sensational. The senior sprinter also came in first place in the 200 meter dash, clocking a time a 21.79. That same exact time of 21.79 is what Straley clocked one week prior at the Danny Brown Invitational track meet, which earned him second place in the final. It’s so easy to become mentally discouraged because the goal wasn’t achieved the first time around but Noah Straley was resilient enough to keep his head on straight, stay focused and show everyone what kind of talent comes out of Bishop Kenny High school and Northeast Florida. If he performs like he has been for the past few weeks, Straley certainly can be on pace for the race for state. With the stride for this season picking up, it’s definitely going to be exciting to see how it unwinds for Noah Straley.
