Creekside tops Ribault

It was a slow start for both Ribault and Creekside as they went head to head in the 2nd game of the Bold city showcase at Skinner-Barco stadium at the Bolles school this past saturday. This was a defensive battle by both of these teams from start to finish. With an early interception by Creekside’s senior defensive back Carter Mceachean and a 4 and out, turnover on downs produced by the Trojan defense, both defenses made it clear that it wasn’t going to be as easy as the opposing team might have thought it would be. The Creekside Knights put the first points on the board as Creekside defender Vincent Approbato was able to bring down a Trojan ball carrier in their endzone to produce a safety. Ribault was able to respond quickly as they capitalized off of an interception by junior defensive back Damontrio Glee. Following the interception, Ribault Quarterback Nick Jones drops back and takes a shot down field to connect with junior wide receiver Kalvin Gilbert Jr for an 80 yard touchdown to take the lead. The next score would come late in the first quarter at the hands of Creekside senior running back Preston Strope as he marched in the endzone for a short run to retake the lead. From this point in the game going forward, the Creekside Knights were able to stretch the lead into a 2-possession game when junior Quarterback Jacob Denni dropped back to hit  senior Wide Receiver Maxwell Robinson running down the sideline in stride for a 59 yard completion for a touchdown.

With the second half not being as busy as the first, the momentum of the game began to tilt in Creekside’s favor as the defense was able to stop anything the Trojan offense tried to put together. The final score of the game was a Creekside victory of 16-7. It seemed like Creekside running back Preston Strope was bottled up for the majority of the game. However, Strope still managed to gain over 100 rushing yards and a first class trip to the endzone. As the season goes on, it doesn’t get any better for Ribault this coming Friday as they will face arguably the best team in this area of Northeast Florida, Trinity Christian Academy at 7:30pm. Trinity Christian last week defeated the Raines Vikings 24-18. Creekside, on the other hand, will look to extend their winning streak as they are hosted by the Nease Panthers at 7pm.
