Ijon Richardson

This past season, Ijon Richardson was nothing short of sensational as he led his team to a
20-19 victory in the SSAC Class A state championship. Not every high school student-athlete is
gifted with the opportunity to win a state title, but obviously Richardson was prepared to defeat
the odds. With 1000 yards rushing and 4 games in which he rushed over 100 yards in the 2020-
2021 season, it might be safe to say that at the next level, the once elusive Quarterback might
find himself another home at the running back position. When initially arriving at Bishop
Snyder, Ijon wanted to play running back but head coach Travis Markoski thought it would
benefit the team more if Ijon were to manage the game as the Quarterback. For some players, it
is a huge deal to be in an unfamiliar position at such a critical time your career, no matter what
level. By accepting the challenge of his head coach, Ijon has shown that he is willing to do what
it takes to help the team win. He has shown that he possesses the qualities of a great leader, a
hard worker and a great teammate. Along with excelling academically, these are the qualities that
attracted the attention of scouts from Warner University where he has recently committed to play
football next season. Although he and his team had to battle through a huge amount of adversity,
every drop of blood, sweat or tears is physical proof that hard work pays off. Clocking a sub-4.5
40-yard dash time and getting faster by the day as he is representing his school on the track this
season, Ijon Richardson has earned the respect that has gotten so far. The city of Jacksonville is
proud to claim Richardson as one of its own. It is going to be amazing to watch this young man
excel at the next level.
