If there was an award for the most improved softball team being given, the Lady Tigers of Andrew Jackson would definitely be on the watch list for the 2021-2022 season. Last season, the Lady Tigers softball team had a record of 9-7 giving up 184 runs and no hopes of making the postseason. Coming out of the gate on a red hot 4-0 winning streak, the Tigers appeared as if they wanted to show the entire northeast Florida region that the Jackson of old is indeed gone. Through the first 16 games of the 2021-2022 season, the Jackson Tigers had made significant improvements with a 12-4 record and had only given up 88 runs over the same time period as their entire season last year. Leading the way defensively is Junior Pitcher Kira Brown with 66 strikeouts and Junior standout Zariyah Stripling with 95 putouts. At bat  the lady tigers are also led by Stripling with a batting average of .500, 4 doubles, 3 triples and 22 RBIs along with senior leader Whitney Kelly with 10 doubles, 7 triples, 29 RBIs and 3 home runs on an average of .492. With the coaching changes that were made last season along with the outstanding effort from Brown, Stripling and Kelly, the lady tigers finished the season with a 14-10 record and a well deserved playoff appearance which was short-lived due to a devastating 16-6 loss to Fernandina beach. Even though a season ending loss is nothing to smile about, the elevated level of achieved success from one season to the next is most definitely something to be proud of. Coach Sanchez and Coach Sheffield have worked extremely hard to turn this program around and the city of Jacksonville as well as the northeast Florida region will look forward to seeing just how bright the future will be for the Lady Tigers of Andrew Jackson.
