Mandarin Shines against Fletcher

Last Friday, the Mandarin Mustangs put on a show as they hosted the Fletcher Senators for the JEAG Sports week 1 game of the week. The stars of this extremely talented Mustang team all showed up to play. The first half was action packed and competitive by both teams. Mandarin managed to strike first with their first two scores coming from the electrifying rushing tandem of Senior Tiant Wyche and Junior Deshard Wescott. Fletcher closed the gap on a 12 yard touchdown run by Super 11 Quarterback Marcelis Tate. Mandarin bounced right back as Tiant Wyche scored from the goal line for his second rushing touchdown of the half. Fletcher’s Marcelis Tate, once again, marched his offense down the field 72 yards to end the drive on an 11 yard strike to Wide receiver Troy Hillman. In the second half,  the Mustang defense showed its potential by forcing 2 second half interceptions and holding Fletcher to 7 points. Mandarin was victorious in this one with a final score of 43-21. 

Standout Performances

Fletcher Quarterback Marcelis Tate completed 14 of his 24 passes for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also showed his athleticism as he carried the ball 12 times for 98 yards and 1 score. Senior receiver Troy Hillman displayed a stellar performance catching 5 passes for 86 yards and 2 scores. Some standout performances for the Mustang offense was Quarterback Tramell Jones completing 9 of 15 passes for 257 yards and a touchdown. As for the rushing attack, JEAG Sports Fab 50 top player Tiant Wyche led the way with 15 carries for 151 yards and 3 touchdowns. Mandarin torched the stats sheet for over 500 yards of total offense. On the defensive side, it was Super 11 defensive back Jon Mitchell who denied all access with 3 passes defensed and a second half interception. The defensive star of this game for Mandarin was Safety Hylton Stubbs. He led the team in tackles with 6 (5 solo) on the night and an interception. This week, Fletcher will travel to Tallahassee to face Chile High while Mandarin hosts a local football powerhouse, the Bolles Bulldogs. Both teams have their work cut out for them for the second week of the season. Let’s see how they do as the season unfolds.
