Trinity Tops Raines

Last Friday night was a clash of two of the more talented juggernaut programs in Northeast Florida. This is always a game that both teams circle on the schedule. Throughout the duration of this game, it was obvious that the energy was high and emotions were flaring due to the fact that there were so many penalties. There were enough mistakes made to go around as there were 50 penalties between both teams with Trinity committing 28 for 291 yards and Raines with 22 for 212 yards.

It was a slow start for both teams in the first half but Trinity Christian managed to get on the board first on a 7 yard pass from Sophomore Quarterback  Colin Hurley to Junior wide receiver London Smith. Raines Quarterback Roman Doles helped his team get back into the game by marching his offense down the field and completing a 19 yard pass to Jadarian Rollins for a touchdown to end the half. The tempo picked up a notch for Trinity Christian in the second half, as they proceeded to outscore the Raines Vikings 34-22. Showing their resilience, Raines exploded for 22 points in the fourth quarter but the deficit was too much to rally back from. It was the ground and pound rushing attack by stand out running backs Webb and Rogers that sparked this scoring spree which led the Conquerors to the triumphant victory.

The three key factors in this game came from the Trinity Christian defense holding Raines scoreless in the third quarter, Darnell Rogers carrying the ball 15 times for 102 yards and a touchdown and Times Union Super 11 selection Treyaun Webb rushing for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns on 10 carries. With another heroic performance, Treyaun Webb is this week’s JEAG Sports Player of the week. Next week the Raines Vikings are set to visit the Sandalwood Saints at 7:00 pm while Trinity Christian faces off against North Florida Educational at 7:00 pm.
