Young QB creates buzz at Beachside

The Beachside Barracudas have found a reason to come out and support the talent, hard work and dedication that their young players display on the football field every week. As so many good players come and go, every year there is potential for a new rising star to take the throne. This year, that rising star is not a highly recruited senior or a junior trying to establish himself, but a sophomore Quarterback by the name of Brick Balcita. As the new kid on the block, it had to be difficult for Balcita to win over the coaching staff, the offensive line and the rest of the core players on the team. Not the traditional size for a Quarterback at 6’0, 175 pounds, one would already say that the odds were not stacked in this kid’s favor. For his first game suiting up for Beachside he did just that as he set the stat sheet on fire with a magnificent debut against Tocoi Creek completing 18 of 29 passes for 305 yards and 3 touchdowns with a QB rating of 117.7. Even though the Barracudas did not come away with the win, it was evident that Brick Balcita had locked himself in at the Quarterback position. His most remarkable game of the season came 3 weeks later in a 42-16 victory over Ridgeview. This was the official coming-out party for the sophomore sensation as he completed 18 of 25 passes for 301 yards and 5 touchdowns leading his team to their third of a four game mid-season winning streak. Balacita was able to lead his team to a record of 6-4  and ended the season with quite a buzz around himself as he led Northeast Florida in both passing yards category and passing touchdowns. His final stats were 141 of 202 completions for 2,135 yards, 30 touchdowns and only 9 interceptions with a QB rating of 125.3. For a player with such a high ceiling, it would not be surprising to find out that he has college offers right now. One thing that needs to be learned is the more film that circulates with this kid making plays, the more attention he is going to get from colleges and opposing defenses. It will be interesting to see if Brick Balcita can stay focused, have a short memory and elevate his level of play while developing his craft.
